Task for Week 9
Our task for week 9 was to focus on prop-making to make sure all our high and medium priority props were all made to show the character's personalities of the scene. We had a group meeting and discussed there needs to be more props made for the Seer character so we each took some assets from the assets list to work on during the week. I took on the prop-making for the cauldron and the fortune-teller ball for the scene.
Cauldron prop purpose for scene
The purpose of the cauldron prop in the scene is to act as a place where the Seer can mix ingredients for her potion-making and makes her seem more mysterious as a character. The cauldron will be full of an unknown liquid which will look like a potion that she is working on and shows her busy personality.
Fortune-teller's Ball prop purpose for scene
The purpose of the Fortune-teller's ball prop is a key prop for her in the scene as it is to show that the Seer character can foretell the future and recall the past. When she is not brewing potions or collecting ingredients, she will be reading the future with her fortune-teller's ball as it allows her to predict the future and recall the past to see what will happen with the wolf in the future.
References for Cauldron
These are the references I used when creating the cauldron prop for the Seer character. I wanted the cauldron to look quite cartoonish and not as realistic so I research much more unique shaped cauldrons.
References for Fortune-teller's ball
These are the references I used for creating the fortune-teller's ball prop as I thought that the colouring used in these references was similar to what I wanted our fortune teller ball to look like. I originally thought it may look good as purple or pink however I thought that a light blue would be an interesting colour and would also not conflict with environmental colouring of the scene.
Concept Art for Cauldron

This is the concept art which I sketched for the cauldron for the Seer character. I imagined the cauldron being quite widely shaped so it would be bigger to mix potions for the Seer. I also wanted to show how it would be quite full of liquid through the shading of the sketch but I would like to use the concept art as an influence when modelling the cauldron prop.
Concept Art for Fortune-teller's ball

This is the concept art which I sketched for the fortune-teller's ball for the Seer character. I thought that the crystal ball bit of the object should have a stand so the Seer can have it sitting on her desk and it can be practical for her using it to predict the future. I also showed how the shading and lighting would look on the fortune-teller ball with the darker pencil shading.
Maya Prop-making for Cauldron
I created the cauldron prop for our scene utilising the reference images which showed the shape and colouring of the cauldron and I also used the concept art to get an idea of how the cauldron may look in the scene. I had difficulty creating the cauldron into a single object as it was quite a unique object so I created a soft cube and split them in half to try create the wider piece of the cauldron at the lower half at the object and combined them together once I had lined up the vertexes and edges of the upper and lower part of the cauldron.

Maya Prop-making for Fortune-teller's ball

I created the fortune-teller ball for our scene using the reference images and concept art for the crystal ball. I created a low poly sphere and added more edges loops so that the topology would make it round enough to look like a crystal ball but I was careful about adding too much topology to the sphere so that it wasn't too complex. For the stand of the fortune-teller ball I created it with an edited torus which I changed the shape of so it looked like a simple stand for the crystal ball with three cube which were extruded to made legs for the stand. The ideation of the stand came from the idea of a tripod so the stand is simple so that it fits with Roki's simple object art style.
