Week 10: Presentation/Feedback and prop-making

Tasks for Week 10

Our task for week 10 was to take the feedback we were given for our presentation and fix up some issues with our scene or make some improvements to props so that everything could be better before hand in. We also discussed which props still need finished in the asset list in our group meeting this week also so I was working on a Crystal prop also in addition to improving our scene from feedback.

Presentation Feedback

Our group was told some feedback after our presentation on some things which were issues or things to improve on. The feedback included:

  • Making the scene seem more natural by making mess/clutter such as books

  • Change the colour difference between walls and environmental objects such as rocks and stones

  • Add more variation of texture onto the table

  • Make all the swatch colours brighter using lighter colours and variation in colours

  • Apply our created swatch

We discussed as a group what we will fix and improve on and we divided the work between us as I worked on editing the swatch and making it much brighter in colour so that our scene wouldn't be as dark.

Editing the swatch

I edited the swatch as my contribution to the feedback improvement by changing the colours to lighter variants than they already were so that the scene wouldn't look so dark. We also realised there was an error with the batch for the presentation which made our scene look darker so we just slightly changed the colouring of the swatch.

Crystal's purpose for the scene

The purpose of the crystal prop is for decoration around the scene, it is a low priority prop however it is a helpful prop as it makes the scene look fantastical and is also made from the same material as the fortune-teller's ball. The Seer made the fortune-teller's ball from these crystal so they are a key part of the scene.

References

These are the references which I used to create the crystal prop. I was inspired by different types of gems and crystals when making my crystal prop.

Concept Art

This is the concept art for the crystal prop which I made and I added shading to show depth into lighting and colouring so I want it to be darker shades the lower it is on the crystal and lighter near the top of the crystal. I wanted to also combine crystals together to create a natural crystal which is a bundle of crystals to make a bigger crystal.

Maya Prop-making

I made the crystal prop using both the references and the concept art I sketched of the crystal. I used the references to try get the colouring and shading but I used the concept art to try get the shape I was imagining the crystals to look like. I started by using half of a soft cube. I then moved vertexes and edges to create a crystalised shape and structure.
