During week one we were tasked with assigning the roles within our group. I have been given the role of environment artist which entails the designing of both the general area in which the characters will be placed and the objects which will surround them.
We decided that in order to fit in with Röki's Scandinavian/Norse mythology we would also take a scene from that same mythos. To do this we aim to show a scene set after Ragnarök (An end of the world event where a wolf destined to destroy everything which was chained up was set free by the sword of the God of the Sun) To do this we decided to show an old cave/prison with rubble, overgrown moss and cobwebs, stone pillars and most importantly the rusted remains of of shattered chains and the Sword that broke them.
To help get this image in our heads we researched the myth and then came up with a general layout (Shown Below)

Although this is a very crude drawing it shows the ideal placements of objects. It includes vital details such as the Stalagmites/Stalactites in the foreground, the loose rubble scattered across the floor, mushrooms, cobwebs and moss to give it an abandoned feeling as well as showing the shattered chains which are attached to the pillars and the sword still firmly planted in the center, it's duty fulfilled.
We then decided to get reference images to help with how these objects will be shaped and textured. Below are the ones I have provided:
Stalagmites/Stalactites (Marble Arch Cave, Eniskillen)

Cobwebs (Lumen Christi College, Derry)

Mushrooms (St Columbs Park, Derry)

Rusted Chains (Granda's Garage, Derry)

Although these are, in my opinion great references we are required to emulate the Roki style. Therefore I have also found cartoonish references for each object and will aim to create a blend between the two to reach the desired effect. Below are examples of these references:
