In week 7 we were assigned a challenge to complete in which we had to make Dice, a Cylinder and a Barrel. In a folder we received we had the tutorial videos to follow and all the images and information for the assets. So I went on Maya and had an attempt at the Dice.
Dice

I opened the UV Editor and it looks like this. It would be the first time I had used the UV Editor in Maya so it was helpful to watch the video as I did it to explain how to carry out adding the image and other helpful tips on how to control and use the UV Editor.
I created a new Material by right clicking and selecting Assign New Material and then clicking on Lambert to create a new one called Lambert2. I had to create a new one because I can’t use the Lambert1 for it. If I was to change the Lambert1 then every new model I added would be that colour.

I then opened the Creator Render Node and clicked on file which opened another menu on the right and it was called file1. I could then add an image from the file folder.

I then browsed for the file and navigated to my images folder where the dice texture was and then opened it.

Now in the UV Editor it had the actual image of the dice. Though it wasn't correctly sized to fit the actual dice picture so I had to resize it so it fit perfectly into the white squares.

After resizing it on the UV Editor to fit the shape it turned out like this with the image on the actual Model.

Cylinder
The second Challenge I was going to be doing was a cylinder
This was the Cylinder in the UV Editor so it looks different than the Cube did when I was creating the set of dice.

I opened the Unfold Menu in the UV Editor by clicking on Modify and selecting the box next to Unfold so it opened the Menu rather than automatically unfolding it. This allowed me to choose the settings for it before clicking on Apply to unfold it.

Once you click apply it turns out like this and slightly titled so I had to fix it slightly.

I fixed it out so it covered the entire words and numbers so on the Cylinder they wouldn’t look widened or distorted. If the letters or numbers weren’t correctly fitted then it would look out of place on the shape. I kept an eye on the shape so I could know when it was resized to fit perfectly.

This was the Cylinder so far.

In the Modify menu I clicked on the box next to Layout so it opened the Layout UVs Options.
Once I clicked on Apply it changed the UV Editor to look like this which meant I had to change it about again to make sure it looked right.

I followed the video and tried to make the UV Editor layout the same as it. So it meant the square part was again covering the words and the two circles are off to the right side of it.

This was the Finished Cylinder after following the video for the Challenge

Barrel
The Final Challenge was to create a barrel and again edit it on the UV Editor.
Using the Planar Mapping options I clicked apply so it would change in the UV Editor

Now it looked like this so I had to rotate it around so it was angled correctly. The lines at the top and bottom were cut out from the barrel by highlighting them in edge mode and then cutting them in the UV editor.

In the UV Editor I rearranged it so they shapes fit like this. The two circles were on the top and the small curved shape was from the bit cut from the small hole on top of the barrel. I then unfolded them after so they became different shapes.

This was the final look on the UV Editor with the rectangular shape more straight than it was originally.

This was the final design of the Barrel
